Bangkok Airways to Increase Flights

Bangkok Airways to Increase Flights

Bangkok Airways has revealed plans to add more connections to its existing network of destinations, reported The Bangkok Post. According to Khun Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of the airline, rather than add new routes to those it currently serves, the airline is set to boost the frequency of flights to its most popular ports of call.

According to Khun Puttipong, Bangkok Airways sees high potential in connecting the cities it currently serves both domestically, and in neighbouring countries. One possible new route that has been mentioned is between Phuket – one of Thailand’s most popular tourist hotspots – and Yangon in Myanmar. This new route is expected to launch some time in 2018.

A choice of new regional flight paths, particularly from Thailand to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam are also under serious consideration. While no concrete plans have been made at this stage, the fact that these routes are under discussion highlights the consistent popularity of Thailand as a tourist destination.

Global hotspots like Koh Samui and Phuket are also likely to be amongst the destinations where Bangkok Airways’ flight frequencies are increased. Well-heeled visitors head back to these destinations year after year for their vacations, often choosing to stay in private villas.

So far, the only new route that has been revealed as part of Bangkok Airways’ expansion plans is a link between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest resort island. Flights between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Phu Quoc will launch on 29 October, using 70-seater ATR 72-600 turboprops.

At present, the airline has eight domestic routes, plus five paths linking Thai provinces with nearby countries. The most popular domestic routes include Chiang Mai to Phuket, Krabi to Koh Samui and U-tapao to Koh Samui.
