Borneo Shopping

Rattan products and jewellery made from semi precious stone such as topaz, emerald, jade and turquoise

The large retail shopping complexes found elsewhere in the region are not found on Borneo. Most of the retail trade here is made from local or regional manufacturers although some of the larger cities have imported goods such as western brand clothing and beauty products. The western Indonesian state of Kalimantan boasts mostly locally produced goods such as rattan products and jewellery made from semi precious stone such as topaz, emerald, jade and turquoise.

In Sabah, the ethnic mix of people living in the Malaysian state is evident in the products for sale here. The state capital, Kota Kinabalu, features the Central Market which is held along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens. The vendors sell everything from food, clothing, electrical and home appliances.
