White sand wonders framed by swaying coconut palms


Collectively, Indonesia's beaches add up to the world's second longest shoreline and a good number of them are white sand wonders framed by swaying coconut palms. Azure seas and powerful crashing waves make for a stunning spectacle, with the warm seas also teeming with diverse marine life that includes sharks, dolphins, turtles and thousands of tropical fish species. Bali is perhaps the most famous place for beach holidays in Indonesia. Kuta Beach has become one of the world's top destinations and despite widespread development, remains one of the best beaches in Asia to surf and soak up the sun. Nearby Legian offers a more relaxed alternative with laid back beach style, good facilities and a choice of sophisticated nightlife options with fine restaurants, beach clubs and pool bars. More remote choices on Bali include Candi Dasa, a small fishing village nestled between the Lombok Strait island's the mountainous interior. A popular destination with day-trippers the beach is known for its striking white sand.

Beyond Bali, Lombok is also major beach destination Indonesia, the island boasts a string of fine beaches with the resort areas of Senggigi and Kuta both offering long stretches of sand. Meanwhile, the Gili Islands, located just off Lombok, benefit from unspoilt swathes of postcard white sand and towering palms. Over on the Indonesia's most populated island, Java, Grajagan Beach is surrounded by mangroves and teak forests. Rapang Beach on Java is also counted as one of the best beaches in Indonesia. The stunning horseshoe-shaped bay is located 2 km south of Ibioh and also offers nesting sites to hawksbill turtles. Over on Sumatra, Pulau Weh is known as one of the best snorkeling and diving destinations in South East Asia, framed by dramatic coral reefs and unspoilt coastal scenery. Not far from Singapore , Bintan island, also on Sumatra is the largest of the islands that make up the Riau Archipelago and boasts18 kilometres of pristine white beaches with crystalline waters, lush nature trails and golf courses.
