Kuala Lumpur and Penang offer a wide selection of vibrant party venues

Malaysia is not widely known for its nightlife, but places like Kuala Lumpur and Penang offer a wide selection of vibrant party venues, with larger than life personalities and some of the region's best music and revelry. The top spot for fun seekers in Malaysia is the modern capital Kuala Lumpur, where entertainment options range from sport fuelled pubs, to sophisticated clubs and upscale bistros, all catering to the city's wide cultural mix. Bukit Bintang is the buzzing night time hub, a well-known party strip lined with bars and clubs. KLCC is also becoming a popular location for sophisticated after dark antics, the majority of party venues concentrated along Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail. Meanwhile, Chinatown has its own nightlife personality. with less clubs, pubs and bars and more of a festival feel, the streets lit up with food and market stalls until late.

Penang has also developed into something of an entertainment capital in recent years. At weekends especially, crowd of local people fill the pubs, bars, nightclubs and karaoke lounges in areas like Georgetown and Gurney Drive. There are plenty of places to socialise and a number of venues boast expansive dancefloors to cater for the influx of revellers that descend on the island city during the country's many festivals. Most bars also have extensive menus so its easy to combine food, drink and dancing in a night out. For the beachside fun, Batu Feringghi's 'Pasar Malam' or night market is open from dusk until after midnight, while on Langkawi, many of the bars are located right by the beach, the perfect place to pass an evening with friends over drinks with a soundtrack of waves and a canopy of star-lit skies.
