Phuket Spa and Wellness

Phuket is home to a wealth of different health and wellness centres that cater to a range of budgets. Traditional remedies and healing techniques are incorporated into the island’s sophisticated, modern spa scene, making a pamper session irresistible to many visitors. Natural remedies, herbal baths and steam treatments and holistic massage are all traditional therapies that can be found on offer in Phuket’s spas, whether you’re in a luxurious high end resort or a beachfront hut.

Independent Spas

Visitors searching for plush, independent spas will find that Phuket is home to many such facilities. Banyan Tree Spa is the most famous and highly acclaimed of these, well known for its stunning designs, top quality treatments and first class service. A less well known but popular choice is Siladon Spa at The Royal Phuket Yacht Club, where massage techniques from Thailand to Sweden share the inviting treatment menu. Situated in Chalong, this luxurious spa also boasts relaxing gardens and a swimming pool, making it the perfect place to unwind for a few hours.  Over in Phuket Town, the Raintree Spa is a pleasant health and wellness centre, and treatments take place in beautifully decorated Sino-Portuguese surroundings. Facial treatments, Thai massage and aromatic body oil massage treatments are amongst the highlights of the Raintree’s menu.

Resort Spas

Many of the high-end spas on Phuket can be found in five star resorts. The Mandara Spa at JW Marriott boasts no less than 16 private double treatment rooms as well as its own exclusive beauty salon. Five of the most luxurious treatment suites are finished with mother of pearl décor for those in search of a relaxing setting that also oozes style factor. Alternatively, Mom Tri’s Villa Royale is the number one destination for visitors seeking a spa with a view. This relaxing resort and spa has fabulous views overlooking spectacular Kata Noi Beach on Phuket’s southwest coast.

Mid-Range Spas

In addition to its selection of luxury spas, Phuket also boasts its fair share of mid-range offerings for those visitors in need of an affordable pamper session. The Body & Mind day spa (with branches in both Karon beach and Boat Lagoon Marina) is particularly popular with couples, and offers special romantic packages, which include a Rose & Milky bath, aromatherapy massage and a bottle of Prosecco. Vayo Massage is another one of the highly-rated mid-range spas in the Patong area, and also offers a range of beauty treatments including manipedis and waxing in addition to more traditional therapies. Located moments away from idyllic Kamala Beach is the Oasis Turquoise Cove Spa, which is elegantly decorated in a Moroccan style. Outdoor rain showers and the Thai herbal steam bath cave are highlights.

Local Massage

For visitors that want to take beach relaxation to the next level, there are always plenty of local places in Phuket to get a traditional Thai massage. Local massage shops in popular tourist areas and even right on the beach are ideal for those looking for more of a rustic experience, with no bells and whistles to distract from the pleasure and pain of a rigorous Thai massage. After all, what could be better than letting your troubles drift away to the sound of the ocean? Hour-long treatments at local places will generally cost about THB350 (US$10).

Health and Wellness

While beach holidays are generally associated with personal indulgence and physical relaxation, Phuket is also home to a selection of wellness centres for visitors that have travelled to the Land of Smiles on a quest for good health. Thanyapura is perhaps the most famous wellness retreat, and covers a 23-hectare area that also offers the island’s best sports facilities. A retreat here is ideal for those looking to kick-start a healthy new regime, and the wellness education centre provides nutrition, exercise and mindfulness workshops. For those looking for specific treatments, Phuket’s Paleo Weight Loss Retreat offers an intense health programme. A typical day consists of a light breakfast followed by two hours of training and a debriefing session where weigh-ins and coaching take place. A light lunch is followed by a health and nutrition lecture before the next two-hour training session commences. Finally, there is time for dinner and a massage before bed. For something slightly more laid back, Le Spa and Le Meridien Phuket offers a three-day programme that combines gentle exercise and a range of spa treatments specifically designed to help guests overcome the effects of jet lag.
